Haven’t done much KPop on the blog yet, so here’s one from today.
I like to work in the staffroom every so often because they leave the radio on and I always get to hear an odd auditory mashup of Western songs, Korean translations of Western songs, and of course KPop. I remember the first time I heard Gangnam Style, I almost pissed myself with excitement (“OMG, actual Psy in ACTUAL Korea!!” was pretty much how it went).
One of the first apps I downloaded when I got here was Shazam. It comes in particularly handy when you listen to foreign music and have no hope of picking out lyrics to look up later, and low chances of understanding the radio hosts when they share such helpful information as the name of the song and the artist.
Over time I’ve been collecting songs during my staffroom visits, and today I landed on this one: “Abracadabra” by Brown Eyed Girls.
I really dig the music video because it’s hopscotching from acceptable to racy between every cutscene – at least for Korean culture.
So there you are! I hope you enjoy some Korea tunes.
